Prakash Industries Wins EC for Bhaskarpara Mine Expansion

Prakash Industries Ltd has received environmental clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) for the expansion of production capacity at its Bhaskarpara Coal Mine.

Under the approval granted on June 12, 2026, the company has been authorized to increase coal production capacity from 1.0 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 1.2 MTPA.

The enhanced capacity is expected to improve the availability of captive coal for the company’s integrated steel operations, strengthening raw material security and supporting greater operational efficiency and cost optimization.

The Bhaskarpara mine is a key component of Prakash Industries’ backward integration strategy. In FY26, the company achieved its targeted coal extraction of nearly one million tonnes, enabling it to reduce dependence on external coal purchases and improve fuel self-sufficiency for its steel manufacturing activities.

The latest approval is expected to further strengthen the company’s resource base and support its long-term strategy of enhancing operational reliability through increased captive coal production.
