KEM Hospital's New Goal: Sports Injury Rehab Center Opens

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has inaugurated a dedicated sports injury and rehabilitation centre at King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital, making it the first civic-run hospital in Mumbai to provide comprehensive sports injury care under a single roof.

The facility is equipped with advanced rehabilitation infrastructure, including underwater and zero-gravity treadmills designed to minimise joint stress while enabling early and safe mobility during recovery. It also incorporates digital assessment systems such as D-Wall and Walker View, which analyse posture, balance and gait to enable personalised physiotherapy programmes. A wide range of therapeutic options—including shockwave, ultrasonic, Tecar, ice and heat therapies—are available to support faster and safer rehabilitation. For athletes requiring extended care, the centre includes a dedicated 20-bed inpatient ward.

Functioning as a multidisciplinary sports medicine unit, the centre brings together orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, psychiatrists and dieticians to offer holistic treatment. Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani said the initiative will help athletes return to sport safely while strengthening KEM Hospital’s standing as a leading public healthcare institution at the national level.
