Zydus, Sunshine Healthcare Ink $20M Sri Lanka Pharma Deal

Zydus Lifesciences and Sri Lanka-based Sunshine Healthcare have officially formed a joint venture, Zydus Sunshine Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd., marked by a recent foundation stone-laying ceremony. backed by an investment exceeding $20 million, the venture will establish a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing facility spanning nearly four acres within the Board of Investment (BOI) zone in Horana.

This strategic partnership aims to significantly reduce Sri Lanka’s reliance on imported drugs by manufacturing high-quality pharmaceuticals for the local retail market. By combining Zydus’s global technical and manufacturing expertise with Sunshine Healthcare’s robust local distribution network, the venture will drive critical technology transfer, enhance supply chain resilience, and create skilled domestic jobs. The project aligns with Sri Lanka’s national strategy to bolster health security and make essential medicines more affordable and accessible.
