Desert Power: PM Modi’s ₹3,600 Cr Gift to Rajasthan

Narendra Modi has inaugurated major transmission infrastructure projects in Rajasthan developed by Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), with a total investment of approximately Rs 3,600 crore.

The first project — Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) Phase-III Part-B1 — has a capacity of 20 GW. It includes key infrastructure such as the 765/400/220 kV Bhadla-III Substation and the 765 kV double-circuit (D/C) Bhadla-III–Sikar-II transmission line. The project is designed to enable large-scale evacuation of renewable energy from Rajasthan’s Renewable Energy Zones, ensuring efficient transmission of electricity generated by solar and wind farms to meet rising demand.

The second project — Transmission System Strengthening Scheme for Evacuation of Power from Solar Energy Zones Phase-II Part-E — has a capacity of 8.1 GW. Its key component is the 765 kV D/C Bhadla-II–Sikar-II second transmission line. This scheme will reinforce the existing grid infrastructure, ensuring reliable and stable power transfer from solar energy zones to the national grid while reducing congestion and improving overall grid reliability.

By strengthening interstate transmission corridors, these projects will facilitate smoother integration of solar and wind energy into the national grid, minimizing bottlenecks during peak generation periods. The expanded network will also help manage renewable energy fluctuations, ensuring a consistent electricity supply to industries, households, and commercial establishments. The initiative supports India’s clean energy ambitions and contributes to reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
