J&K to Add 1,624 MW Hydropower Capacity by End of 2026

Jammu and Kashmir is set to commission 1,624 MW of new hydropower capacity by December 2026 with the completion of two major hydroelectric projects on the Chenab river system. The projects include the 1,000-MW Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Project and the 624-MW Kiru Hydroelectric Project, both being developed by Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd. in Kishtwar district. The commissioning will significantly enhance the region's electricity generation capacity, strengthen power supply, and support India's renewable energy expansion, while also advancing efforts to harness the hydropower potential of the western rivers.
