NTPC-JBVNL JV Fires Up 800 MW Unit for Jharkhand.

Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL) — a joint venture between NTPC Limited (74%) and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) (26%) — has commenced commercial operations of its first 800 MW unit under Phase-I of the 3×800 MW, 4,000 MW supercritical thermal power project at Patratu.

The first unit, developed at a cost of approximately ₹9,000 crore, began commercial generation on November 5 and is currently operating at around 85% power supply capacity. PVUNL is delivering nearly 540 MW of power to Jharkhand, meeting a major portion of the state’s electricity demand.

The project is being executed in two phases, with Unit-2 scheduled for commissioning by March 2026 and Unit-3 expected to be operational in the next financial year.

Constructed on the site of the former Patratu Thermal Power Station, the new plant features advanced, high-efficiency supercritical technology and reduced water consumption systems, reinforcing NTPC’s commitment to sustainable and reliable power generation.
