NTPC Powers Up: 3 New Nuclear Sites Picked for 30 GW Ambition

State-run power major NTPC has identified three sites in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha for developing nuclear power plants as part of its long-term plan to add 30 GW of nuclear capacity across 14 states by 2047.

The company has submitted detailed feasibility reports for the three proposed sites to the Atomic Energy Commission for approval. NTPC is evaluating potential partners based on technology transfer, localisation, design engineering and nuclear fuel availability. It has also signed non-disclosure agreements with Russia’s Rosatom and France’s EDF to explore possible collaborations.

To expand its nuclear energy business, NTPC has established NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Its first nuclear project, at Mahi Banswara in Rajasthan, comprises four 700 MW units with a total capacity of 2,800 MW and is being developed through a joint venture with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India.
