Torrent Power has successfully completed its acquisition of Nabha Power Limited (NPL) from L&T Power Development for Rs 3,632.35 crore. The transaction became effective on June 25 following approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
With this acquisition, Torrent Power now holds 100% of NPL’s equity shares and convertible instruments, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary. Located in Rajpura, the facility features two 700 MW supercritical generating units and operates under a 25-year long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Punjab State Power Corporation (PSPCL).
Originally commissioned in 2014 under the Central Government’s Case-II competitive bidding framework, the Rajpura plant is widely recognized as one of India's most efficient coal-based power stations, boasting a consistently strong Plant Load Factor (PLF). This strategic move significantly expands Torrent Power’s generation portfolio and cements its footprint in India’s long-term contracted thermal power sector.
