A Win for Coal Logistics: RITES Commissions New ECL Siding

RITES has successfully commissioned the Dalmia–Salanpur railway siding for Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, marking a significant milestone in strengthening coal evacuation and dispatch operations.

The newly commissioned siding enhances ECL’s capacity to evacuate and dispatch up to six million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of coal, improving supply chain efficiency for power producers and industrial consumers across the country. The project involved complex engineering to seamlessly integrate the mine’s dispatch infrastructure with the national railway network. Key works included a 2.25 track-kilometre (TKM) route and 4.60 TKM of track laying, including the Dalmia in-plant yard. Civil construction comprised a road overbridge (ROB), minor bridges, and vehicular underpasses to ensure uninterrupted local connectivity.

The siding is equipped with high-tension overhead electrification (OHE) and advanced electronic interlocking (EI) signaling systems, ensuring safe and efficient train movements. With this addition, coal transportation from the region is expected to become faster and more streamlined, strengthening the country’s overall coal supply chain.
