The Mandale Depot for Mumbai Metro Line 2B, which will connect DN Nagar to Mandale in Mankhurd, has been inaugurated, marking its status as Asia’s largest and the first elevated Metro depot.
Developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the state-of-the-art facility spans 30.45 hectares and features advanced, future-ready, and eco-friendly technologies. The two-level car shed can accommodate 72 Metro trains, with 36 trains on each floor, significantly boosting operational support for the upcoming line.
MMRDA notes that the depot will substantially enhance the speed, reliability, and overall efficiency of Metro Line 2B operations, improving daily commuting for passengers. The Andheri–Mandale corridor serves as an important link between Mumbai’s eastern and western regions, helping ease congestion and strengthen connectivity. With the Diamond Garden–Mandale section already complete, commuters are now awaiting the official opening of this vital stretch.
