Bengaluru’s Pink Line: From Testing to Transit

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro has commenced rolling stock type tests on the 7.5-km elevated section of the Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, with public operations expected to begin from May.

The tests are being conducted to assess new trains and their components for safety, performance and regulatory compliance through a combination of laboratory and on-track trials. These include evaluations of crashworthiness, braking systems and dynamic performance to ensure passenger safety. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) said mainline testing is a critical step before commissioning, followed by validation of train performance and system integration under real operating conditions to secure statutory approvals.

A six-coach train supplied by Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) in December 2025 is being used for the trials, which are expected to be completed by mid-April.

“During this period, traction and brake type tests, oscillation trials at various speeds, and integration tests with signalling, power and telecommunication systems, among others, will be conducted,” BMRCL said.

The 21.25-km Pink Line will have 18 stations, including a 13.76-km underground stretch from Dairy Circle to Nagawara, and is targeted for completion by December 2026.
