Driving Growth: RITES Secures Long-Term Locomotive Support for SAIL

RITES, a leading transport infrastructure consultancy and engineering firm, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) to strengthen SAIL’s railway operations.

Under the MoU, the two organisations will collaborate to enhance the efficiency of SAIL’s rail systems through specialised services such as wet leasing of locomotives and higher-schedule maintenance of SAIL-owned diesel-electric locomotives. RITES will provide locomotive leasing along with comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) support, aimed at improving reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. This arrangement will enable SAIL to focus more effectively on its core steel manufacturing activities.

The long-term engagement builds on RITES’ two-decade-long association with SAIL and leverages RITES’ extensive expertise in railway operations and maintenance. According to RITES officials, the partnership is expected to strengthen rail-based logistics, which are critical to supporting SAIL’s expanding steel production capacity.
