Konkan Rail Doubling: DPR Initiated for 263 km Stretch

The long-awaited capacity expansion of the Konkan Railway has gained momentum, with Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL) initiating the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for doubling a 263 km stretch of track.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared the update in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on 10 December 2025. The Konkan Railway line—from Roha in Maharashtra to Thokur in Karnataka—serves as a vital link along India’s western coast, cutting through the challenging terrain of the Western Ghats. So far, track doubling has been completed on the Roha–Veer and Madgaon–Majorda sections, covering 55 km, while 685 km remain to be expanded.

Vaishnaw noted that the project will require significant financial investment along with state government participation. “This expansion will greatly enhance the capacity and efficiency of the railway line,” he said.
