PM Modi Launches Rs 35,000-Crore Infrastructure Drive in Vadodara

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 8, 2026, inaugurated, dedicated, and laid the foundation stones for multi-sector infrastructure and development projects worth over Rs 35,000 crore in Vadodara, Gujarat.

The completion of three critical sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC)—spanning 326 route km at a cost exceeding Rs 20,700 crore—marked a major milestone. This included direct rail connectivity to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) to streamline export-import cargo movement, curb logistics costs, and decongest Mumbai's rail network. Additionally, foundation stones were laid for three railway projects covering 329 km at a combined cost of over Rs 9,700 crore, featuring the Vadodara-Ratlam third and fourth lines, Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar gauge conversion, and Vishwamitri-Dabhoi doubling to optimize passenger and freight flow between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

National Highway initiatives worth around Rs 1,780 crore were rolled out to upgrade regional transit, alongside state-level infrastructure valued at Rs 2,600 crore. The state projects encompass Phase II of the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road, a 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) housing units, and drinking water supply expansions.
