Safety First, Launch Later: Pune Metro Hits Another Red Light

The opening of the first phase of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor, originally scheduled for July 15, is expected to face further delays. Commercial operations along the 12-station stretch between Maan and Balewadi are currently on hold pending the final safety report and certification from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), despite inspections already being finalized. Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari stated that an official rollout will take a minimum of 15 days post-clearance to complete remaining station works. This project has seen multiple timeline revisions, including shift transitions from initial May and June targets, following the state government's March decision to implement a phased launch strategy.
