The Ministry of Railways has successfully commissioned a 56 km section of the 68 km Kadur–Chikkamagaluru–Belur railway line in Karnataka, significantly enhancing rail connectivity to the region’s remote hilly areas.
This development represents a major milestone in the long-awaited project to provide Chikkamagaluru with its first comprehensive rail link. The new line will improve access to the popular tourist destination of Belur, reduce dependence on road transport, and boost the local economy by facilitating the movement of goods, particularly agricultural produce, as well as passenger traffic. The stretch is expected to enable faster, safer, and more affordable travel across the region.
Once the remaining section is completed, the railway line will fully integrate central Karnataka with the state’s broader rail network. The improved connectivity will further support the tourism sector, especially around Belur’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed Chennakesava Temple.
