Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy has confirmed that the Railway Manufacturing Unit (RMU) under construction in Warangal is progressing on schedule and is expected to be fully operational next year.
Describing it as a “game-changing project for the region,” the Minister highlighted that construction across the 160-acre facility is advancing rapidly. The first phase, with an investment of ₹521 crore, incorporates sustainable building practices and advanced technologies in line with the Centre’s vision for a modern, eco-friendly railway ecosystem. The RMU will be equipped with high-tech machinery and is set to manufacture state-of-the-art mainline electric multiple unit (MEMU) rakes of 16–20 cars, enhancing short- and medium-distance rail travel across the country.
In addition to boosting rolling stock capacity, the project is expected to generate substantial employment for local youth and support ancillary industries. Earlier in the day, Minister Reddy arrived via the Vande Bharat Express to review central initiatives in the region, including tourism, the proposed Warangal Airport, and the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park.
