The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) has published its first eligibility list, confirming that over 75% of tenement holders have qualified for new housing under the slum redevelopment initiative.
According to DRP data, all bona fide residents who settled in Dharavi before January 1, 2000, are eligible for a 350 sq. ft. flat within Dharavi, subject to submission of required documentation. Those who moved in between January 1, 2000, and January 1, 2011, may be allotted 300 sq. ft. flats at alternative locations outside Dharavi.
Of the total 505 tenements surveyed, the status is as follows:
31 tenements have yet to submit any documentation.
137 cases are pending verification by the BMC, with follow-up underway by DRP.
38 tenements are categorized as amenity structures.
Of the remaining 299 tenements, 229 have been confirmed as eligible, while 70 are in the process of submitting additional documents to establish eligibility.
DRP CEO SVR Srinivas highlighted the project's inclusive approach, affirming that all commercial units—whether eligible or not—will be accommodated within Dharavi. A proposal has also been submitted to house ineligible commercial establishments on a rental basis.
