The Rajasthan government is set to upgrade 14 state highways spanning approximately 926 km under the Rajasthan Highways Modernisation Project, supported by a Rs 2,025 crore loan from the World Bank. The initiative is aimed at strengthening road infrastructure, improving transport efficiency, and enhancing road safety across the state.
The project will be executed through a combination of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and hybrid annuity model (HAM) approaches. Five highway packages will be developed under EPC, while nine will follow the HAM model. A formal agreement is expected to be signed between the World Bank, the Government of India’s Department of Economic Affairs, and Rajasthan state authorities.
A key focus of the project is the integration of intelligent transport systems to enable real-time traffic monitoring, strengthen enforcement, and improve emergency response. It will also include trauma care centres, GPS-enabled ambulances, and integrated accident response systems to reduce fatalities during the critical “golden hour.”
In addition, the project will introduce wayside amenities, EV charging infrastructure, ropeways, tree plantation initiatives, logistics planning, and traffic decongestion measures in major cities such as Jaipur and Jodhpur, enhancing overall mobility and logistics efficiency in the state.
