The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Army for the transfer of 160 acres of defence land to facilitate the construction of two elevated corridors in the Secunderabad Cantonment area. Aimed at reducing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity, the project is scheduled to begin by July 2025 and be completed within 2.5 years, by the end of 2027.
The proposed corridors will run from Paradise to Shamirpet and Paradise to Dairy Farm Road along Medchal Road. In exchange for the defence land, the Telangana government will allot 330 acres in Jawaharnagar and surrounding areas. Officials confirmed that construction of boundary walls and related Army infrastructure will commence shortly.
The Paradise–Shamirpet corridor will require 114 acres of defence land and 78 acres of private land, while the Paradise–Dairy Farm Road corridor will need 42 acres of defence land and 13 acres of private land. The project also includes two underground tunnels near Begumpet Airport and Hakimpet Air Force Station to ensure strategic connectivity and safety.
