Pune’s HCMTR Ring Road Back on Track with ₹3,000 Crore Boost

Following orders from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reactivated the long-stalled High Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR). To overcome past environmental, land acquisition, and planning delays, the civic body has invited tenders for technical and land-management consultants, targeting October to open formal construction bidding.

PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram confirmed an initial ₹3,000 crore funding commitment for the updated 43-km ring corridor—expanded from its original 35.96-km scope to incorporate the Vishrantwadi-Bopodi link. Featuring a 24-metre-wide, six-lane elevated design with a dedicated central BRTS lane, the project aims to bypass heavy urban traffic and link key districts across Pune. Officials note that drone surveys are active, over half of the needed land is already available, and alignment tweaks at 12 key locations will minimize further acquisition delays.
