Uttar Pradesh has inaugurated the 63-km, six-lane Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway (NE-6), reducing travel times between the two cities from three hours to under 45 minutes. Built by NHAI and executed by PNC Infratech for ₹4,500 crore, the project features an 18-km elevated section in Lucknow and a 45-km greenfield alignment through Unnao.
NE-6 is designed for speeds of 120 kmph and is notable for adopting a barrier-free Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system that uses automatic license plate readers and FASTag to eliminate physical toll stops. Alongside the inauguration, state and union leaders launched an additional ₹4,850 crore in regional road upgrades to support the upcoming State Capital Region (SCR).
