Andhra Pradesh has set an ambitious target to install two lakh rooftop solar connections by May 2026 under the PM Surya Ghar–Muft Bijli Yojana, with 1.5 lakh connections planned for completion by March.
Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand has underscored the need for high-quality execution and consumer-friendly implementation, directing officials to accelerate renewable energy initiatives across the state. These include rooftop solar installations and the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. He has instructed the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company (APSPDCL) and the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) to fast-track project execution while adhering to strict timelines and accountability measures. APSPDCL has also been tasked with ensuring the seamless installation of electricity meters.
In parallel, the state is advancing feeder solarisation projects under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme, covering approximately 2.9 lakh agricultural pump sets. These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance renewable energy adoption and strengthen sustainable power infrastructure across Andhra Pradesh.
