JSL Super Steel and Sunsure Energy Join Forces for Green Power

JSL Super Steel, a subsidiary of Jindal Stainless, has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement with Sunsure Energy, an independent power producer. As part of this agreement, JSL Super Steel will procure 11 MWp of solar energy from Sunsure's 49 MWp solar project in Augasi, Uttar Pradesh.

This strategic partnership will provide the company with 16.5 million units (MUs) of clean energy annually, resulting in a 40% reduction in its conventional energy consumption. The initiative is in line with Jindal Stainless' broader sustainability goals and adheres to the Uttar Pradesh State Power Banking Policy. By integrating solar energy into its operations, the Ghaziabad-based company expects to offset approximately 12 million kg of carbon emissions every year, significantly lowering its environmental impact.

Jagmohan Sood, Wholetime Director and Chief Operating Officer of Jindal Stainless, highlighted the company's commitment to sustainability: "This partnership is a critical component of our short-term goal to reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2035. As leaders in the stainless steel industry, we take it upon ourselves to implement cleaner production methods, such as green hydrogen adoption, the use of biofuels, and increasing the share of renewable energy in the grid, at every stage of our value chain."

The company’s transition to solar power represents a concrete step toward meeting its carbon reduction objectives and improving the energy efficiency of its production processes.
