Karur’s New Horizon: 198 MW of Clean Power Now Live!

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has successfully commissioned a 198 MW wind power project in Karur, Tamil Nadu, under the group captive model.

The project comprises 55 wind turbines and is designed to generate approximately 31 million units of clean electricity annually, supporting Tata Steel’s decarbonisation initiatives. It is expected to offset nearly 26,350 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, contributing significantly to the sustainability objectives of both companies.

The project was executed within a record timeline, with turbine foundations completed in just 126 days and turbine installation finalised within 167 days. TPREL delivered the project through a self-engineering, procurement, and construction (self-EPC) model, overseeing the entire scope—from balance of plant (BOP) works to transmission line development—highlighting its strong in-house engineering and project management capabilities.

The successful commissioning of the project underscores TPREL’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the delivery of efficient renewable energy solutions.
