Premier Energies and SAS Announce 2 GW Silicon Wafer Joint Venture

Premier Energies, a leading solar cell and module manufacturer in India, has entered into a 74:26 joint venture with Taiwan-based Sino-American Silicon Products (SAS), whose subsidiary GlobalWafers is the world’s third-largest producer of semiconductor silicon wafers.

Signed on May 19, 2025, the agreement aims to strengthen India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem through a 2 GW per annum facility that will process polysilicon ingots into silicon wafers—key components in photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules. The venture combines Premier Energies’ robust solar production capabilities with SAS’s advanced silicon wafer technology.

Doris Hsu, Chairperson and CEO of SAS and GlobalWafers, described the partnership as a strategic move to expand operations in India, enhance supply chain resilience, and meet rising solar demand both locally and globally. The collaboration represents a major step forward in localizing the solar supply chain and facilitating technology transfer to India.
