RGE Plants Roots in Tamil Nadu with $600M Fibre Facility

Singapore-based Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) will invest Rs 4,953 crore to establish its first project in India—a manmade fibre manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

The project, expected to generate employment for around 1,065 people, will be formalized through an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government at the ‘TN Rising’ Regional Investment Conclave being held today. The plant will focus on domestic value addition and sustainability, sourcing 90% of raw materials locally, with a significant portion from Tamil Nadu. Only the pulp will be imported from RGE’s Indonesia operations.

The facility will supply high-quality inputs to Tamil Nadu’s textile industry, bolster regional supply chains, and enhance local employment opportunities.

Part of a broader initiative to tap into the industrial potential of tier-2 and tier-3 cities, the ‘TN Rising’ conclave aims to drive balanced regional development. Thoothukudi is emerging as a key investment hub, following major announcements such as VinFast’s Rs 16,000-crore EV plant, now nearing inauguration. More MoUs and investments are expected at the conclave, highlighting Tamil Nadu’s growing appeal to global and domestic investors.
