The West Bengal government has approved the establishment of a 660 MW thermal power plant in Durgapur, to be developed under a revenue-sharing model with private sector participation.
According to officials, the tendering process is expected to commence after Durga Puja, beginning with the invitation of Expressions of Interest (EoIs) from potential developers. The project will follow a tariff-based competitive bidding process, with the selected private entity responsible for the full investment and execution.
The state government will facilitate the project by providing land and common infrastructure, including ash ponds, coal handling systems, and other essential facilities. It will also ensure coal linkages through Coal India Limited (CIL) to secure fuel supply for the plant.
The West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company (WBSEDCL) will procure the entire output under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) at a mutually agreed tariff, ensuring viability and supply security.
This project is expected to bolster the state’s energy capacity and support its growing industrial and residential demand.
