Deendayal Port Authority to Allocate Land for New Kandla Airport

Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) has agreed to allocate between 600 and 1,000 acres for a new greenfield airport at Kandla, in line with its land management policies. This move is set to enhance air connectivity in the region and support the development of Kutch’s industrial and tourism sectors.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will finance the project once the land allocation is finalized. DPA is prepared to offer the identified land parcels on a 60-year lease, facilitating long-term planning and development.

AAI has already submitted a comprehensive master plan for 2049 to the state government, detailing the vision for enhanced air connectivity in Kutch. This plan underscores the strategic importance of the new airport in accommodating future growth and supporting regional development.

Currently, Kandla airport operates with only two 78-seater flights, and the terminal's capacity is limited to 250-300 passengers. The new airport will address these constraints and significantly improve travel options for the region.

This initiative marks a significant step in upgrading infrastructure in Kutch, aligning with broader regional development goals and boosting connectivity for both business and tourism.
