"World's First Hydrogen VTOL Ecosystem Takes Flight in India!"

"Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed a quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BluJ Aerospace, the Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT), and Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) to develop the world's first hydrogen-powered vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft ecosystem.

Signed in Kochi on March 12, 2025, this agreement aligns with India's goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070, marking a significant advancement in sustainable aviation. The initiative aims to transform urban and regional air mobility by integrating green hydrogen-powered VTOL aircraft, enhancing efficiency, reducing noise, and lowering carbon emissions.

BPCL will spearhead the development of hydrogen refueling infrastructure for VTOL aircraft manufactured by BluJ Aerospace. The company plans to establish hydrogen refueling stations (HRS) in Kochi and Trivandrum to support this transition.

Additionally, BPCL will invest in research and development to develop an indigenous proton exchange membrane (PEM) hydrogen fuel cell with high power density, a crucial component for vertical lift-off capabilities."
