Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) has officially commenced production at its newly upgraded manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Pune district, Maharashtra, effective October 1, 2025.
Located in the MIDC Industrial Area, the plant has an annual installed capacity of 1,70,000 passenger vehicles. Originally commissioned by General Motors in 2008 for Chevrolet production—catering to both domestic and export markets—the facility ceased operations following GM’s exit from India in 2017. After remaining idle post-2020, Hyundai acquired the plant in 2023, including its land, buildings, and equipment, and has since modernized it to align with global manufacturing standards.
The Talegaon facility now complements Hyundai’s existing operations at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, which has a production capacity of over 7,00,000 units annually. With this expansion, Hyundai’s total installed production capacity in India exceeds 8,70,000 units per year, reinforcing its position as India’s second-largest automobile manufacturer.
This strategic investment supports HMIL’s long-term growth plans, addressing rising domestic demand and boosting export potential, while contributing to India’s evolving automotive ecosystem.
