Tata Group Invests ₹950 Crore in Battery Arm Agratas

The Tata Group has injected ₹950 crore into its battery manufacturing subsidiary, Agratas, as part of its strategic expansion into the new energy sector. Agratas is at the forefront of developing advanced manufacturing capabilities, particularly for cleaner energy solutions in the automotive industry.

According to Tata Sons' 106th annual report, the company plans to establish a 40 GWh gigafactory in the UK and a 20 GWh plant in Sanand, Gujarat. These facilities will utilize cutting-edge technology to produce batteries that cater to the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.

Agratas is focused on manufacturing batteries for a range of applications, including two-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and energy storage systems. Its first clients include Tata Group entities such as Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Tata Motors, signaling strong internal demand.

This investment underscores Tata Group's commitment to the green energy transition, as it seeks to leverage Agratas’ capabilities to support the automotive and energy sectors' shift towards sustainability.

With this move, Agratas is set to become a key player in the global battery market, positioning Tata Group as a leader in the new energy landscape.
