ONGC Strikes AP: $8,110 Crore Investment, 172 Wells Approved

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) will invest ₹8,110 crore for the onshore development and production of oil and gas from 172 wells across eight Production Mining License (PML) blocks in Andhra Pradesh.

The project recently received a recommendation for environmental clearance from the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. As part of its Environment Management Plan (EMP), ONGC will allocate ₹172 crore in capital cost and ₹91.16 crore in annual recurring costs, along with an additional ₹11 crore set aside for public hearing commitments.

The EAC has directed ONGC to strictly implement all proposed environmental safeguards and mitigation measures outlined in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and EMP reports. It also stipulated that no wells be drilled within a 10-km radius of the Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary, in line with the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued in May.
