*Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KPIT Technologies at the Global Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Summit in Kochi to advance hydrogen-based mobility in Kerala. As part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, this collaboration aims to establish Hydrogen Refuelling Stations (HRS) in Kochi and Trivandrum, supporting pilot mobility projects and paving the way for sustainable hydrogen-powered public transport.
The MoU was signed by Ranjan Nair, Business Head - Renewable Energy at BPCL, and Ravi Pandit, Chairman of KPIT Technologies, in the presence of key officials, including K R Jyothilal, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Energy, Government of Kerala, Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, IAS, Former Secretary, MNRE, Government of India, Dr. Bharat L. Newalkar, CGM (R&D), and D. D. Sarkar, Project Head (Renewable Energy), along with senior representatives from both state and central governments.
This initiative aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by integrating indigenous technologies to build a robust hydrogen ecosystem. BPCL will utilize a locally developed alkaline electrolyser for hydrogen production, while KPIT Technologies will introduce an indigenously designed fuel cell-powered bus.
Following the MoU signing, senior government officials had the opportunity to experience Kerala’s first hydrogen-powered bus, marking a major milestone in adopting hydrogen as a clean and sustainable fuel for public transport.**
