Mishra Dhatu Nigam (MIDHANI) is strategically positioning itself to play a pivotal role in the global supply chain, particularly in the manufacture of aircraft engines and aerospace vehicles. With a keen focus on establishing a niche in aero engine manufacturing, this public sector undertaking (PSU) is actively aligning itself with the aerospace sector to cater to both domestic and international demands.
In its pursuit of global competitiveness, MIDHANI is currently in the process of obtaining development certification from a prominent US-based aerospace company. This certification will validate the international quality of MIDHANI's specialized critical materials, capable of withstanding extreme temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees centigrade—essential for aero engines. Additionally, these materials offer the advantage of being lighter compared to conventional alternatives.
Furthermore, MIDHANI has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a domestic private defense entity, aiming to explore opportunities for manufacturing critical materials as part of import substitution. To support these initiatives, the company has invested Rs 600 crore in FY23 for the modernization and expansion of its plant facilities, ensuring adherence to timelines and enhancing overall capabilities.
MIDHANI, originally established to achieve self-reliance in the production and supply of various super alloys, serves key sectors such as defense, energy, space, and aeronautical applications. The company has a notable track record, having supplied crucial materials for assembling launch vehicles, engines, and motors for missions like Chandrayaan and Gaganyaan. With an impressive open order book valued at Rs 1,700 crore, MIDHANI continues to contribute significantly to India's strategic capabilities.
