In a move to fast-track the Gurugram Metro project, the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) on Friday demolished eight houses in Naharpur Rupa village, Sector 33, to clear encroachments on land earmarked for the Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd. (GMRL).
Officials stated that public announcements were made two days in advance, informing residents that the structures were illegally built on government-acquired land. The land, spanning 25 acres, was initially designated for a Transport Nagar but has since been reassigned for use as a metro casting yard.
The demolition drive was temporarily halted when two property owners secured a stay from the district court around 4 PM. The next court hearing is scheduled for August 25.
"This metro project is vital for Gurugram’s future. We will present our case strongly," said Gian Chand Saini, HSVP official. HSVP Administrator Vaishali Singh added that the authority has already resolved over 30 major infrastructure bottlenecks, with continued efforts underway to expedite metro-related works.
