Ghaziabad Gets Green Signal for Massive 140 MLD STP

The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has allocated 40,000 sq. ft. of land to the Jal Nigam for the construction of a 140 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) under the Namami Gange programme.

Situated near the New Link Road flyover, the STP will treat wastewater from seven major drains before it flows into the Harnandi River. The Jal Nigam had been awaiting land transfer since completing the DPR, and officials noted that the facility will significantly benefit residents troubled by foul-smelling and polluted drains, particularly during festivals. Recent water samples from multiple locations showed critically low oxygen levels, underscoring the severity of pollution in the region.

The project involves an investment of ₹380 crore for the STP and drain tapping, along with ₹630 crore for construction and 15-year operation and maintenance. Initially mandated by a 2010 High Court directive, the project had been stalled due to land-related obstacles but will now move forward at a site near the Biodiversity Park.
