Reliance Industries (RIL) is poised to inaugurate its groundbreaking Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex in Gujarat during the latter half of 2024. The sprawling 5,000-acre complex, situated in Jamnagar, is set to become one of the world's largest integrated renewable energy manufacturing facilities.
Comprising five state-of-the-art giga factories dedicated to the production of photovoltaic panels, fuel cell systems, green hydrogen, energy storage, and power electronics, the complex underscores RIL's commitment to advancing cleaner fuels. The company is diligently progressing with the phased commencement of new energy facilities throughout the year, culminating in the anticipated commissioning of the entire giga complex in the second half of CY24.
In collaboration with the Gujarat government, Reliance has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a renewable power capacity of 100 GW, with a capital expenditure of Rs five lakh crore. The company has secured in-principle approval for 74,750 hectares of land in Kutch for green hydrogen production, solidifying its position in the emerging sector.
RIL's strategic investments extend globally, with partnerships formed with ten leading technology innovators specializing in various facets of the new energy value chain. The company is nearing the operationalization of the initial 5 GW module manufacturing capacity by mid-CY24. Through REC Solar, Reliance has entered into a supply agreement with Suzhou Maxwell Technologies in China for a high-efficiency production line for HJT cells, boasting a capacity of 4.8 GW. Additionally, a 5.2 GW HJT module automation production agreement was signed with China-based SC Solar in January 2023.
Notably, Reliance has emerged as a frontrunner in securing production-linked incentives (PLIs), clinching victories in both rounds of solar modules PLI (Round 1: USD 0.3 billion, 4GW; Round 2: USD 0.4 billion, 6GW). The company stands out as the sole recipient, alongside Greenko, to receive incentives for both green hydrogen and electrolysers. The incentives include USD 0.3 per kg for a 300 MW electrolyser capacity and USD 0.23 for a 90,000-tonne green hydrogen capacity. Furthermore, Reliance has achieved success in the PLI category for ACC battery storage, securing incentives for a 5 GW capacity.
