Power Grid Corporation of India has been declared the successful bidder for a critical inter-state transmission system (ISTS) project in Rajasthan. This project, part of the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase-III Scheme, is aimed at the evacuation of power from the Bhadla-III power station as part of a broader 20 GW initiative.
The Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) received a Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish the transmission system through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process. The project will be executed on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis, highlighting Power Grid’s pivotal role in enhancing India’s renewable energy infrastructure.
As per the LoI, Power Grid will acquire a special purpose vehicle (SPV) named Bhadla-III Power Transmission. The project includes the augmentation of transformation capacity and the extension of associated bays at the substation, essential for managing the increased power flow from the renewable energy zone.
This development is a significant step in supporting India’s renewable energy goals, ensuring that the power generated in the sun-rich regions of Rajasthan is efficiently transmitted across state lines. The ISTS project will play a crucial role in the country’s energy transition, facilitating the integration of renewable power into the national grid.
With this win, Power Grid further cements its leadership in the power transmission sector, continuing its commitment to developing robust infrastructure for India’s growing energy needs.
