Reliance Rises in Tamil Nadu: ₹1,156 Crore Boost for Thoothukudi

Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL) will invest ₹1,156 crore to establish a 60-acre integrated manufacturing facility at the SIPCOT Allikulam Industrial Park in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state’s investment promotion agency, in the presence of Industries Minister T R B Raaja. The facility is expected to create 2,000 local jobs over the next five years.

RCPL becomes the third major FMCG player to commit significant investments in Tamil Nadu in the past two years, following Godrej (₹515 crore in Chengalpattu) and Dabur (₹400 crore in Tindivanam). The announcement reinforces Thoothukudi’s emergence as a rising industrial hub, with growing prominence in electronics, renewable energy, and India’s commercial space sector.

The new plant will focus on multi-product manufacturing, including regional snacks, biscuits, spices, atta, edible oils, and other key FMCG categories, supporting Tamil Nadu’s industrial diversification and employment growth.
