On May 11, 2025, India marked a major stride in strategic manufacturing with the inauguration of the world’s largest aerospace-grade titanium remelting facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The state-of-the-art plant, operated by Aerolloy Technologies—a subsidiary of PTC Industries—was inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Located within the Lucknow node of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, the facility is part of India’s first Strategic Materials Technology Complex. Spanning 50 acres, the plant boasts an annual production capacity of 6,000 tonnes, making it the world’s largest single-site titanium remelting unit.
Equipped with cutting-edge technologies including vacuum arc remelting (VAR), electron beam (EB), plasma arc melting (PAM), and vacuum induction melting (VIM), the plant enables indigenous production of critical high-grade materials for the aerospace and defence sectors.
Alongside the titanium facility, foundation stones were also laid for seven advanced manufacturing units. These include an aerospace precision castings plant capable of producing single-crystal castings for jet engines, a forge shop and mill products unit aimed at reducing reliance on imports of billets, bars, and plates, and a precision machining shop for exporting ultra-precision CNC-machined aerospace components.
