Motherson Group is set to integrate into Apple's supply chain in India through a new joint venture with Hong Kong-based BIEL Crystal Manufactory, a global leader in smartphone glass. This strategic move is part of Motherson’s broader plan to diversify its operations and expand into new sectors.
The joint venture will see Motherson, holding a 51 percent majority stake, establish a new manufacturing facility in southern India, likely in Tamil Nadu. The greenfield project is expected to attract an investment of ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 crore, with anticipated revenue potential ranging from ₹8,000 to ₹8,500 crore within four to five years of commencement.
Set to launch in the consumer electronics segment between July and September, this venture will leverage BIEL’s established reputation as a supplier for Apple’s production facilities in China and Vietnam. BIEL also provides components for major brands including Samsung, Xiaomi, and Lenovo.
This investment aligns with a growing trend among Southeast Asian nations, including India, to capture a larger share of the electronics manufacturing market. By June, electronics had become India’s third largest export category. Tata Group has similarly invested over USD 1 billion to enhance its partnership with Apple, underscoring the increasing strategic importance of the Indian market in global electronics supply chains.
