Pratt & Whitney (PW), a US-based engine maker and a subsidiary of aerospace and defense company RTX, has recently established a cutting-edge research and development (R&D) center in Bengaluru, Karnataka, named the India Digital Capability Center (IDCC). This strategic move aims to foster innovation and drive digital and business transformation across its global operations. The center will work in close collaboration with PW's existing engineering and supply chain operations centers, leveraging synergies within RTX, including Collins Aerospace and RTX Enterprise Services, all located in India.
PW is actively recruiting its initial workforce for the IDCC, with plans to expand to over 300 employees by 2027. This expansion underscores PW's commitment to tapping into India's rich pool of technology talent. Over the past decade, PW has already invested nearly USD 55 million in sourcing from aerospace suppliers in India and has contributed over USD 500 million in engineering services to the country's aerospace sector over the past two decades.
With a recent infusion of USD 40 million into its engineering and supply chain operations centers, PW is further solidifying its footprint in India's aerospace ecosystem. This multi-million-dollar investment in the IDCC underscores PW's dedication to fostering technological advancement and innovation within the region. It complements the company's existing investments in India, including the India Customer Training Center in Hyderabad and collaborative R&D efforts with prestigious institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. Additionally, PW inaugurated its India Engineering Center (IEC) in Bengaluru last year, further enhancing its presence and contributions to India's aerospace industry.
