Shibaura Machine India, a Japanese manufacturer, has officially opened its second manufacturing unit in Chembarambakkam, near Chennai. This significant expansion, worth ₹275 crore, includes a ₹50 crore investment in land. The new facility will significantly boost production capacity from 1,200 to 4,000 injection molding machines annually.
The expansion project began in November 2022, aiming to meet growing demand across various sectors such as automotive, electrical, household furniture, packaging, and medical equipment. Shibaura Machine India, initially part of the Toshiba group, acquired a 100% stake in L&T Plastics Machinery Ltd. in 2012 and became independent in 2017, rebranding to its current name.
At the inauguration event, Managing Director M. Kumar highlighted the strategic benefits of the new unit. "With this expansion, we plan to add new products and increase our customer base," he said. The facility will also expand the company’s vendor base from approximately 150 to 200 vendors, enhancing supply chain efficiency.
This expansion underscores Shibaura Machine India's commitment to the Indian market, reflecting the country's growing significance in the global manufacturing landscape. The increased capacity is expected to meet the rising demand for high-quality injection molding machines.
Shibaura's strategic investment in Chennai not only reinforces its market position but also promises to drive innovation and growth in the industry.
