Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed the immediate repair of the damaged water pipeline supplying drinking water from the Kaushalya Dam to Panchkula, to ensure swift restoration of the city’s water supply and reduce dependence on tube wells.
The Chief Minister also instructed the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to allocate land for establishing a clean water storage facility in the Pinjore–Kalka area. Emphasising the importance of sustainable water management, Saini called for greater utilisation of surface water over groundwater and the scientific conservation of rainwater.
He further directed officials to strengthen the water supply system from the Kajauli Water Works and to enhance the capacity of pumping motors to ensure uninterrupted distribution. The Irrigation Department has been asked to prepare a plan to increase the storage capacity of Kaushalya Dam, while an expert committee will evaluate the safety and stability of key water infrastructure, including the Kaushalya Dam, Ottu Head, and Hathnikund Barrage.
