The Delhi government has approved a ₹220 crore drainage project under the city’s new Drainage Master Plan to address chronic waterlogging in Kirari, one of the capital’s most flood-prone areas.
The project includes the construction of a 4.5 km drain along the railway line from Mundka Halt station to Najafgarh, along with an additional drain running parallel to the Delhi–Bhatinda railway line. Designed to benefit more than 70 unauthorised colonies and several neighbouring localities, the initiative is expected to provide relief to lakhs of residents. Construction is targeted for completion by 2027.
Once operational, the upgraded drainage network will significantly improve water flow in Kirari as well as nearby areas such as Nangloi Jaat, Bawana, and Mundka, strengthening urban infrastructure and reducing monsoon-related flooding.
