Polavaram Project Progressing: Gap-2 Stone Work Begins

Construction on Gap-2 of the Polavaram Irrigation Project accelerated on 9 December 2025 with the formal commencement of stone-filling operations.

Officials from the Water Resources Department and representatives of Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd. (MEIL) performed traditional puja rituals before initiating the work. While stone-filling in the downstream section had already begun after ground stabilisation, the ceremony marked the official start of similar activity in the upstream section.

Prem Chand, along with MEIL General Manager A. Gangadhar, stated that the project is progressing in line with government targets and following a systematic plan to ensure timely completion. Soil-filling on both sides of the diaphragm wall is underway, and construction activities in Gap-1 are advancing as per the approved schedule.
