The Upper High-Level Canal Project in Banswara is making significant progress, with over 1,150 meters of its 2,610-meter tunnel already completed.
Valued at ₹2,248 crore, the project is designed to provide irrigation and drinking water to 338 villages across six tehsils. Tunnel construction, which began in December 2024, is advancing at a rate of six meters per day despite the challenging mountainous terrain. A dedicated team of 60 workers operates in three shifts, employing heavy machinery and controlled blasting for excavation.
District Collector Dr. Inderjeet Yadav emphasised the project’s transformative impact, noting that it will irrigate 42,000 hectares of farmland and bolster regional growth in agriculture and mining. Scheduled for completion by November 2026, the canal will have the capacity to release 20,000 litres of water per second, benefiting Banswara’s rural communities.
