Modi's Rameswaram Rush: Rs 8,300 Crore Infrastructure Boost!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated several infrastructure projects worth over Rs 8,300 crore in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, on April 6, 2025. Highlighting their importance, he emphasized that these initiatives would significantly improve connectivity across Tamil Nadu and strengthen ties with Andhra Pradesh.

Among the key projects are the foundation stone for the four-laning of the 28 km Walajapet–Ranipet stretch of NH-40 and the dedication of three newly completed sections: the 29 km Viluppuram–Puducherry stretch of NH-332, the 57 km Poondiyankuppam–Sattanathapuram section of NH-32, and the 48 km Cholapuram–Thanjavur stretch of NH-36. These upgrades will enhance access to pilgrimage sites and tourist destinations, while reducing travel time between key cities.

The Prime Minister noted that these improved highways will provide faster access to ports, medical facilities, and will greatly benefit farmers transporting their produce to markets. Additionally, local industries—especially the leather sector and small-scale businesses—will see a boost in economic activity. He also mentioned that 77 railway stations, including Rameswaram, are being modernized as part of the government's broader infrastructure development mission.

Earlier in the day, Modi inaugurated the Pamban Rail Bridge—India's first vertical lift sea bridge. He also flagged off a train and a ship from the nearby road bridge, witnessing the bridge's operation and calling it a perfect blend of modern engineering and traditional heritage.
