On April 30, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 46th edition of the PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) meeting, where he reviewed eight major infrastructure and development projects worth approximately ₹90,000 crore. These initiatives span multiple sectors, including three road projects, two railway projects, and two related to ports, shipping, and waterways.
PRAGATI is a multi-modal platform that fosters coordinated governance between the central and state governments, aimed at ensuring timely implementation of critical infrastructure and welfare initiatives.
During the review of a ring road infrastructure project, the Prime Minister stressed the need for integrating such developments with long-term urban planning to accommodate projected city growth over the next 25–30 years. He also suggested the incorporation of circular rail networks into urban transport systems to create more sustainable and interconnected mobility solutions.
While assessing the progress of the Jal Marg Vikas Project, PM Modi underscored the potential of inland waterways not only for efficient cargo movement but also as a means to boost tourism. He encouraged the development of river-based economic ecosystems that actively involve local communities.
“This will help create vibrant local economies and promote business opportunities, especially for artisans and entrepreneurs linked with initiatives like 'One District One Product' (ODOP) and other traditional crafts,” an official statement noted.
